Description: Math is an integral part of drinking water and wastewater system operations and is often one of the hardest topics to master. This training event will review different math concepts and methods for solving problems, and will provide attendees with practice applying the concepts to solve example problems.

Presenter: Rebekah Novak holds a Bachelor of Arts in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. During her studies, she pursued advanced mathematics coursework beyond degree requirements, including linear algebra. She gained practical experience through a three-year internship with the City of New Bedford’s Engineering Department, where she transitioned into a full-time role as a Municipal Surveyor upon graduation. While working there, she earned a Grade 5C Wastewater Operator’s License. Rebekah has since worked as a wastewater operator in multiple municipalities, including the City of Northampton (full-time), the Town of Ashfield (part-time), and a condominium facility in Granby, MA that operates a package treatment plant with groundwater disposal. She is currently working toward obtaining her Drinking Water Operator’s License (T1, D1). With a strong passion for mathematics, Rebekah has also tutored individuals preparing for drinking water operator certification exams.
